Informal meetups in Basel

Over the past year, a small (but resilient) group of writers, translators and managers has been meeting at regular intervals at a downtown Basel restaurant.

There’s no set agenda: We discuss general topics, as well as STC and work-related issues.

If you’re interested in joining us, please leave a comment below and we’ll send you the meetup details.

    Dear colleagues,

I just found out about your group and the European based association you belong to. Would it be possible to join you if you meet again in Basel.

I am a Canadian/Swiss legal translator (and lawyer) and writer based in Baselland, working from my home office and would need more contacts with professionals in my field in English, German, French.

    Thank you for your answer.

    Best regards,

    Dear Basel STC members,

I will be in Switzerland from 2 July – 18 July and would love to meet with your group if by chance you plan to get together during that time. I’m an STC member and am a recent graduate in the fields of technical communication, English, and Spanish from a U.S. university. I’m looking for opportunities to talk with those in technical communication careers, particularly those with international or translation experiences. I have a job in Spain next year and before I go there, I would enjoy meeting with your group while I’m in Switzerland. Please let me know if you will get together during this time frame at all! I hope to get the chance to meet what sounds like a great group of technical communicators.

    All the best,

    Lindsay Taylor

    Hello,

I am a technical writer working for Apple Inc. in California, and will be visiting Switzerland in July and early August with my family. I’d be interesting in meeting with writers to chat and compare notes while I’m there. If a meetup is happening in Basel during that time, please let me know. If anyone would like to arrange a get-together, send me mail at musik.writer@gmail.com and I’ll respond after I arrive.

    Hello SWIG Members,

I am working for a software firm in Kanton Luzern as a Technical Writer. I would also like to join SWIG for these meetups and for any other tech-writing activities. Can you please guide me on how to become a member?

    Thanks and regards,

Hello to everyone interested in SWIG!

I apologize that there has been a drop in the communication on the SWIG. I recently took over the role of Treasurer and am based in Fribourg. I would love to hear from anyone who would like to meet up in Switzerland and I will get going on organizing a meeting (hopefully with the help of our good friend Dan Jones).

In the meantime, if anyone wants to get more involved in the TAC, we are looking for volunteers to help us out with all the work that is entailed in keeping a chapter alive. We are specifically looking for someone to be our Membership Manager. This involves maintaining a current membership list and making contact with members from time to time. This would only involve 4-5 hours/month of your time. Please let me know if you are interested.

    Hope to see you soon!
    Janette
